Interactive Game/Vertical Series Writer for Interactive Films

December 30, 2025

We are developing an original Roman-era gladiator epic designed as a hybrid interactive game narrative and vertical drama series. The story features high-stakes political intrigue, action, romance, and survival within the gladiatorial world, with a strong ensemble of 3 male leads and 7 female leads.

The project requires a writer who can manage large-scale narrative construction, character-driven storytelling, and branching interactive structure, while collaborating closely with production, game design, and editorial teams.

Position Summary

The Interactive Game & Vertical Series Writer will be responsible for developing and delivering two interconnected scripts:

  • A long-form interactive game script (minimum 350 pages) with branching narrative paths, player-driven choices, and replayable story outcomes.
  • A vertical episodic drama script (approximately 110 pages) adapted from and aligned with the core narrative of the interactive game.

This role requires a writer who understands both traditional screenwriting and interactive storytelling mechanics, with a strong command of historical drama and ensemble character arcs.

Key Responsibilities:

Narrative & Script Development

  • Write and deliver a minimum 350-page interactive game script, including:
  • Branching dialogue paths
  • Choice-driven outcomes
  • Character-specific arcs and variations
  • Multiple narrative threads and endings
  • Write and deliver a ~110-page vertical series script, structured for short-form episodic consumption while maintaining cinematic quality.
  • Ensure narrative consistency and continuity between the interactive game and vertical series formats.

World-Building & Character Development

  • Develop a rich Roman/gladiator world, including political hierarchy, social dynamics, and historical tone.
  • Create and sustain compelling arcs for:
  • 3 male leads
  • 7 female leads
  • Balance action, drama, romance, and intrigue across both formats.
  • Maintain strong character motivation and emotional progression across branching storylines.

Collaboration & Production Integration

  • Collaborate with: Production Manger to develop the story.
  • Game designers and narrative designers
  • Editorial and development teams
  • Participate in story meetings, revisions, and notes sessions.
  • Adapt scripts based on production needs, budget considerations, and platform requirements.

Revisions & Deliverables

  • Deliver outlines, beat sheets, drafts, and revisions on agreed timelines.
  • Implement notes while preserving narrative integrity and character consistency.
  • Support ongoing narrative adjustments during production and post-production as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in screenwriting, narrative design, or interactive storytelling.
  • Ability to manage and deliver large-volume scripts (300+ pages).
  • Strong understanding of branching narrative structures and player choice mechanics.
  • Experience writing ensemble-driven stories with multiple lead characters.
  • Solid grasp of dramatic structure, pacing, and dialogue.
  • Comfortable working within development schedules and production constraints.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing for interactive games, visual novels, or branching narrative platforms.
  • Familiarity with vertical drama formats and short-form episodic storytelling.
  • Knowledge of or experience writing historical, epic, or gladiator-era narratives.
  • Ability to adapt story content across multiple platforms while maintaining a unified narrative vision.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the Production Manager.
  • Works closely with creative leadership and development executives.

Contract Type

  • Contract-based (with potential for ongoing collaboration across seasons, expansions, or future titles).

This is an in person job.  The salary range is $23.52 – $28.33 per hour for a 40 hour week.
