CAA Books is a fast-paced and growing department selling publication and media rights across all languages, territories, and formats to establish and develop literary careers worldwide; we work with internationally acclaimed and bestselling authors across fiction and non-fiction.
We are looking for a new detail-oriented and efficient Publishing Assistant to Literary Agent to join our team, primarily to support one of our Agents. This Assistant will work on a client list comprised of local and international authors, including names like Margaret Atwood, Philippa Perry, Siri Hustvedt, Florence Knapp, Oliver Bullough as well as many other bestselling and prize-winning writers of fiction and non-fiction.
Responsibilities:
- Management of a busy diary and contacts lists, travel booking, scheduling & expenses.
- Logging deals on behalf of the Literary Agent and submissions management.
- Management of multiple databases, from publication to rights.
- Liaising with our Business Affairs and Accounts departments to track payments and contracts.
- Reading and commenting on authors’ new material and submissions.
- Dealing with enquiries about rights, publicity and author material.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for client enquiries by telephone and email.
- Liaising with the Literary Agent on day-to-day author business.
- Fielding phone calls and emails for the Literary Agent.
- Correspondence drafting.
- Preparing newsletters, writing website and marketing copy.
- Handling post, author copies, book orders.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must have a passion for books/reading and be keen to develop a career in the publishing industry.
- Interest in other types of media, such as podcasts, film/TV, visual arts, and the ability to identify trends.
- Should have proven solid administrative experience.
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to take ownership of tasks and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Previous experience with Outlook and other MS Office programmes.
- Additional language skills are desirable but not essential.
- Publishing experience preferable.
