Logline: Comedian & actress Caroline Aherne, a working-class woman from Manchester, rises to fame in 1994 with “The Mrs Merton Show,” where her faux-naïf character asks real celebrities outrageous questions, leading to both controversy and acclaim, and later spawns the short-lived sitcom “Mrs Merton and Malcolm.” From 1994 to 2004 Aherne also stars in “The Fast Show” with a range of comic characters, but her greatest success is co-creating, writing, directing, and starring in “The Royle Family” from 1998 to 2000, which wins multiple BAFTAs and becomes her most celebrated work.
